Farmers etc

I am still set on my idea of wayfinding and placemarking as the topic for any eventual PhD I attempt to do. I am still going through all the images from my trip to Finland, Scotland and Iceland.

There is this residency in the Arctic I have been eyeing off for years. Maybe this is the time I actually apply. I don’t know.

The below are all from series Farmers 2014.

My birthday is today. Here are some beautiful things from this weekend.

Kulata Tjuta Project from the Dark Heart 2014 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art. The piece shows punu (wood) and kulata (spear) hanging in formation suspended above the heads of visitors. The amazing shadows are like strike marks on the wall. I loved this piece.

Then two images from the stratosphere. Probably the only place that makes sense right now….

These images were taken in Mývatn (which is a shallow eutrophic lake situated in an area of active volcanism in the north of Iceland). Specifically they were taken near the very small town of Reykjahlíð, where there are volcanic outdoor pools and baths. The water in the images is warm. The little islands are volcanic rock, the whole place is dark and silent and misty. I felt very outside myself here.

Then Kim reminded me of Laurie Spiegel and her work, Voices Within… the murmurs, (desires) of machines we have made, calling signs, the sound of process and function. I feel this is perfect music for these images.

All the lights which can be seen at the same time

The shape of mountains. The weight of mountains. Stand at the base, the summit, the precipice. See how the clouds bend around the mountains? See how the light falls through and down, cascading like water. So many aspects seen at once. How everything changes.

The more I think about it, the more I miss it. In a small town. My friend Margaret had images canoeing in the Yukon. I want to visit there too.

Where Am I?
