walk with a taught string

If I hold a string, stand in one place. I give you the other end. You walk the length of the island (neighborhood). You walk the whole way round. We meet at the same spot, and pull the string tight. Suddenly we encompass our area, the internal space of our trajectory. Our walk, the mass of it. Pulled up tight across grass, sand, water, scrub. Up tight against a wall, house, tree. Side by side we stand, pull the string tight.
